The Bus driver
4 different bus lines serving the bus stop close to my new home. Which one do I have to take? I’m new in town. I’m reading the schedule while I realize from the angle of my eye the bus is coming. Which one? Check the number… find the stop. The bus stopped. The driver makes a sign with his head: what’s up? Don’t know, my shoulders go up. Check the schedule. No. The...

Gipsy Life
Son: Is this our home?
Dad: No, this is only a hotel.
Son: where is our home?
Dad: We don’t have a home yet.
Son: I wanna go home.
Dad: I’m working on it.

The green resort bracelet
You know, I live in a resort.
You mean you work there?
No, I mean yes I have to work, but I live in a resort. I sold off all the furniture, put my stuff in a self storage place and left for a resort by the seaside in Liguria.
Oh, but where is your actual domicile?
The resort.
Really? But what comes after. Are you relocating to somewhere?
Mmh, yes ideally yes. I would love to go live in Switzerland.
So, you don’t know if that will work out?
Not yet, unfortunately. But for the kids it would be great.
You have kids?!
Ah, yes, three?
Three kids?! An you live in a resort…
Yes.
Are you married?
Yes, I am.
You’re wife must be a saint.
Well, I’m not too bad as a husband, too, you know.
Yeah, but it’s incredible she accepted to live so… I mean you don’t know where you will be next after this experience right?
Precisly.
Wow. That’s a great story
I know.

“Marciapiede?” ripete incredulo. “Ma se li...
Twittare come nel 1986
Lo so che Twitter non esisteva nel 1986. Ma molti di noi che oggi siamo appassionati di Twitter sì. Immaginatevi quindi cosa avremmo twittato nel 1986. Ho letto un paio di tweet in tedesco con l’hashtag #twitternwie1986 molto carini tipo “a mia madre non piacciono gli hardrocker di Bon Jovi.”

Indian Cooking
I’ve never been to India. Guess I know only little about India. When I was a child a loved the story of Sandokan, a fictional pirate created by Emilio Salgari. Like Karl May, creator of Winnetou, Salgari have never been to India.
However.
I love Indian cuisine. I really do. My Bangladesh neighbors told me an excellent shop stuffed with exotic delis from India and Pakistan. The owner of...

Donate ok for a cat but not for poor people says...
PAYPAL: Only a nonprofit can use the Donate button.
ME: That’s false. It says right in the PDF of instructions for the Donate button that it can be used for “worthy causes.”
PAYPAL: I haven’t seen that PDF. And what you’re doing is not a worthy cause, it’s charity.
ME: What’s the difference?
PAYPAL: You can use the donate button to raise money for a sick cat, but not poor people.

How Twitter found my luggage
I lost my luggage on the train from Zurich to Milan. I didn’t try getting a customer support for lost items from Trenitalia, this would have been totally useless. Thankfully, I did remember that I had left some magazines with my name on it in the front bag of the luggage. Who ever had my luggage, with a search on Google, they would have found me. So, why not trying with a message in the...

October 2008
Trying new and different foods in foreign countries was usually the gift I gave myself when traveling. I’d rather spend a lot of money on an exotic, memorable meal than on junky souvenirs that clutter and pile up. When else will you get to say you ate goat stew? Rat meat? …

Exploring the heart of Italy: Umbria
I’m Italian. I live in Italy and I know where Umbria is, but actually never thought of going there. I’ve been many times in Tuscany. So, I was expecting making similar experiences. After all, Tuscany and Umbria are neighbours. All wrong. Umbria is something on its own. And by the way, never ever compare Umbria to Tuscany. The Umbrian got very angry about that. And I do understand that now.
I...

Cappuccino To-Go
singlewhitefemaletraveler:
The barista filled my ceramic mug with a hot, frothy cappuccino. There were no “to-go” cups in the Czech Republic - if you needed coffee or tea on the run, you had to supply your own container. I rather liked this idea, and did it whenever I could.
I turned to leave. A familiar face caught my eye.
“Ahoj, Štěpán!”
He was sitting by himself, reading a book. There...

Against bad luck, Italians do this
When ever you come across something that represents bad luck, like seeing a hearse, receiving a curse, having disgraceful thoughts or mentioning something discraceful that may (hypothetically) happen, Italians do this:
Spreading the index and thin finger of the hand out and sticking in their trousers for touching their balls. Technically it’s facciamo le corna - (let’s make the...

Biking in the rain
Rainy holiday in Czech, although there must be worse places, like by the seaside: must be very frustrating having everyday rain. No complains, biking in the rain is simply great. 35 km through the woods. Perfect.
P.S. for biking in Czech Republic I really recommend this map: www.mapy.cz (it’s all in czech, but not impossible to use). For those who like biking with an Iphone or...

It’s alway a nightmare spending 3 weeks with my wife’s family in Czech Republic. I will handle this issue on a separate post, so you will understand why.
For this year, I decided to counterattack with a nice touristic sight seeing plan. Which I will be discovering mostly on my own.
Here the things I want to see / to do within the next 15 days:
Wine testing in Dolni Kounice

La Frocia - one of the most traditional Sicilian...
La Frocia is mainly a sort of omelette, but more aiming to be a cake. My grandmother used to prepared it with Artichokes: a taste which evokes my childhood and the summers spent by the seaside. But out of season, almost every vegatable can do it. The basic incredients are: eggs, bread crumbs and grated pecorino cheese.
I know two versions. The one I’d like to present is like a cake. You...
